About Slate Puzzle
A Metal Jigsaw Puzzle Worth Keeping
Slate Puzzle creates metal jigsaw puzzles designed to be solved, displayed, and kept. The idea started with a simple question: Why does finishing a puzzle usually mean putting it away?Traditional jigsaw puzzles are made to be completed, taken apart, returned to the box, and eventually forgotten. We wanted to create something different—something satisfying to solve, substantial in your hands, and beautiful enough to remain part of your space when you are finished.Founder Trevor Jackson came to the idea through his background working in the metal industry. Being surrounded by metal gave him an appreciation for materials that are permanent: their weight, durability, texture, and the way a well-made piece of metal can transform an everyday object. That led to the idea behind Slate Puzzle: reimagine the traditional cardboard jigsaw puzzle as a precision-made metal puzzle.Every Slate Puzzle is made from anodized aluminum and precisely laser-etched. The difference is immediately noticeable. The pieces have weight. They feel cool and solid in your hands. They make a distinctive sound as they come together. And because the artwork is etched directly into the surface, the design interacts with light in a way that printed cardboard simply cannot. It's a completely different puzzle experience.
Why “Slate”?
The name Slate Puzzle comes from the idea of starting with a blank slate. Our metal puzzles begin as a clean surface with no predetermined design. From there, almost anything can be etched onto them: artwork, a photograph, a city map, a meaningful place, or something completely original. The aluminum is the starting point—ground zero for whatever design comes next. That flexibility is central to what Slate Puzzle is about. Some of our puzzles feature recognizable works of art and carefully selected designs. Others become giftable, custom metal puzzles, created around something personal to the person receiving them.A favorite city. The neighborhood where you grew up. The place where you met. A memorable trip. A family photograph. A home, landmark, or piece of your own story. From a custom photo puzzle to a personalized city map puzzle, each design begins with the same blank metal surface and becomes something entirely different.
Made to Last Beyond the Last Piece
We believe the material should match the meaning behind the design. That's why we use anodized aluminum instead of cardboard and laser etching instead of traditional printing. A personalized metal puzzle should feel like something worth keeping—not something disposable. You solve it once, but you can keep it for years.Leave it on a coffee table. Put it on a shelf. Frame it. Give it as a metal puzzle gift to someone who immediately understands why that particular image, city, or memory was chosen for them.We think about Slate Puzzles as more than puzzles. They are objects meant to preserve artwork, places, and memories in a material designed to last.We focus on thoughtful design, precision, and craftsmanship rather than making something that disappears back into a box when the experience is over.Because finishing the puzzle shouldn't be the end of it.Slate Puzzle is the puzzle you don't put away.
